Growing up in KGF

By Bridget White Kumar - Author of the awesome recipe books found here on Pepperwater.com

I was born and brought up in Kolar Gold Fields, a small mining town in the erstwhile Mysore State now known as Karnataka. KGF as everyone knows had a very sizable Anglo-Indian Population who lived and worked there for generations. It was well known for its colonial ambience with elegant bungalows replete with huge lawns and gardens and many clubs with tennis and badminton courts, golf courses etc. This place, which was known as “Little England” was unique for its secular and egalitarian society not found anywhere else in the world. Even though gold was being surface extracted by the natives earlier, KGF actually came into existence in the year 1880,

The Vow

Logan Niadin continues his "Journey of Hope" series and I personally hope it never ends. I would like to read on and on about Richard. If you've been following this series and enjoying it, please leave a comment and let the author know it. If you've missed the previous stories, catch up on them here .  Without tainting this story by me writing anymore, here it is - The Vow.

The Vow
By Logan Niadin

The Rego house was full, it was Easter Sunday and all of Richards’ aunties, uncles, cousins and the family's friends, came round, for the day. There was Duck curry--- cooked specially by his aunty Enid, there was pork, and doll with drumsticks, junglee pilau, and plain mince cutlets and potato cutlets, aunty Noreen made her famous chapattis (at least ten layers to peel off) and of course Richard's favourite "coconut squeet".

Facelift!

Looks like you caught me in the middle of a facelift! As you can see we have a new design and please bear with me as I make this transition. You will see that some of the old colors and design appears in some parts, the "mootai" pink clashes with the yellow and stuff.

BUT.

Let me know what you think so far! Leave a comment! I should complete this transition within the next couple of days. Be patient!

Some facts about the 1500's
The next time you are washing your hands and complain because the water temperature isn't just how you like it, think about how things used to be in the 1500's.

Most people got married in June, because they took their yearly bath in May and still smelled pretty good by June. However, they were starting to smell, so brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide the body odour. Hence the custom today of carrying a bouquet when getting married.
