The Anglo bicyclist who did us proud

Kendel - The Anglo Indian Bicyclist
This is the story of a successful Anglo Indian who did us all proud with his achievements in the world of cycling.

Kendel was the unassuming second son of Yvonne & Herbert Turner. He was born in 1972 in Lallaguda (fondly called Little England) in Secunderabad, A.P. In 1987 at the tender age of 15, his cycling abilities were noticed by his classmate’s father Mumtaz Ahmed, a coach for the Andhra Pradesh cycling team. He convinced him to give it a shot at the state trial for the forthcoming Sub-junior Cycling Nationals tournament.  Being blessed with a supportive brother Russel, who already had his own share of achievements at this sport persuaded Kendel to try his luck. He surprised himself when he fared brilliantly as a first timer without any formal training.

Velankanni - Part 2

The final part of this series! By Ernest

They remembered what Sunna Robinson said(big big crabs men)took Richard back to the kitchen and introduced him to his lunch."they're crabs Richard and when they're cooked they are very tasty."Nothing to be afraid of really, except those two huge claws and look, they are tied up,so stop crying and go and wash your face" said his Mum,comforting him with a hug.Later they sat down to lunch.Richard really enjoyed the crab curry and rice, but not the doll with brinjals. He could'nt stand brinjals in doll and they decorated the rim of his plate."Richard eat your brinjals"said his dad in a stern voice.

Velankanni - Part 1

The LONG over due (with apologies to Ernest )  Velankanni! The second last chapter of this story. Stay tuned for the last of this series coming up in a week. Enjoy!

Guard Sidney.D'Monte woke them up at Tanjore Junction at eight o'clock, because it was the best place to have breakfast.Theres nothing like freshly made iddly, oolundoo vadai, uppma, with pieces of casewnut and (ghetti) coconut chutney and samba.Richards Mum and Dad enjoyed their "chapoos"(disposable earthen-ware cups) of --- what uncle Sidney said was "the best bloody coffee on the line".They arrived at negapatam at ten o'clock in the morning, said their good-byes to uncle Sydney and jumped into a tonga with all their luggage.

No, my name is...
This would especially apply to all the Anglo's who grew up in India. Your name would have been "murdered" and pronounced in so many different ways. I know nobody (non - Anglos) could get my name, I used to go by my middle name in some places. So, tell us about the funny ways people pronounced your name!

You might be Anglo...

So, I was thinking of something fun to do on Pepperwater and thought that this might be amusing. "You might be Anglo" is basically listing out Anglo-Indian characteristics. Like, for ex: You might be Anglo if... (enter characteristic that's almost unique to Anglos).

I added the first one and will add more as I think of some, have fun, keep it clean and making fun of ourselves is okay! Just click the "Write Comment". You must be logged in to add to "You might be Anglo"

Can faith move mountains?

A long overdue continuation of "A journey of hope" by Logan Niadin - Enjoy!

0500 hrs, the tonga (horse drawn cart) arrives.--0530 hrs the Regos set off for the station.--0545 hrs arrive at "Marikuppam station".--0600 hrs "we're going to the seaside --- we're going to the seaside" song and journey begins. There is something about Anglo Indians and trains,a sort of acceptance of each others very existence.A familarity (to coin a phrase) that never breeds contempt.Like a home; that is home, everywhere, anywhere, which in a way explains the ease with which all Anglo Indians settle into any place they go to.Well,ok, its not as simple as that, but why does it always work and why does it feel so right.Wherever in the world this small community has gone to they have done well.
