Heard the sad news that Dunstan Dubier (Perambur, India) had passed away this morning. I had the privilege of knowing him for a few years as a neighbour. There was always a joke and a smile on his face. The biggest joke on us, as young boys was during a night of carol singing he put a big envelope in out collection box – only for us to find a small thank you note.

Our prayers are with his family and friends.

If you received an email with a temporary password, worry not. Peperwater is being upgraded with some cool new features and your account was transferred to the new system. Please bear with me as I transfer all the content over.

The new version of Pepperwater boasts of cutting edge features.:

  • Earn Pepper Points for participating – logging in, commenting, making friends etc.. you get the point!
  • Use your points to enter cool contests – yes you can use these points like cash to win cool prizes.
  • You can compete with other members. The more you participate, the higher a rank you will be given.

These are just a few things to look forward to.

While this new site is completely usable, it might look a little rough here and there. I am working on it – you get to see it early! The complete transformation should be done over this coming weekend.

First of all, I would like to thank each of you that have donated money, time or any other service towards the Ayanavaram Branch’s Christmas Treat. I was fortunate to be there this year. I got to see all that this small group of committed people do – every year. I wish all of you could have been there to see the smiles on the kids faces, and the adults. Here are some pictures from the 2010 All India Anglo-Indian Association, Ayanavaram Branch’s Christmas Treat.

A trip down memory lane.

I was thrilled to visit Madras, India after a long time – to see family, show off the kids, and meet friends. I was especially glad I was able to visit St. Joseph’s Anglo Indian School on “Main Road”. I have fond memories of this school. The first six years, from lower kindergarten to 4th standard, of my academic life was spent here. Walked from home with friends, kicked stones, rode bullock carts and even got chased by cows – lifelong friendships were forged. Everyone knew everyone else. My teachers were my parents’ friends and had taught my sisters. My neighbours were my classmates and my classmates in were with me up to college – and from what I hear, some are even in Atlanta (where I live)! Continue reading “A trip down memory lane.” »

Pepperwater.com lives to tell the stories of Anglo-Indians – and what a great opportunity to tell you the story of what three guys from Bangalore are doing. David Bower, his son Mark Bower and Leon Leahy have invested 5 years into working hard to develop one of Bangalore’s finest football fields. What was once a dump yard is now graced with beautiful paintings and provides a world class field to Anglo-Indians. It is not uncommon to also see a bunch of international teams from Korea to Europe playing on this field.

The Anglo-Indian Association Ayanavaram branch is hosting its Annual Christmas treat for children and seniors. The less fortunate kids get to relax and have some fun playing games and taking some fun rides. What’s a Christmas party without Santa? Santa will close the evening out by giving gifts to these kids and bring …smiles to their faces.

The elderly will be treated to a feast and allotted Rs. 200.00 a month to assist them.

Education is vital to our youngsters and educational assistance will be provided to the under-privileged students. and so much more.

It is a day of fun, sharing and bringing smiles to peoples faces this Christmas Season, and we invite you to be a part of it.

The Aynavaram branch cannot do this without your help – be it time or money. If you would like to volunteer time, click the contact us link at the top. If you would like to support what this small group of people are doing in the little town of Aynavaram in South India, click the donate button.

Remembering Phyllis Pearson

I was 19 when I began to study for my Hons degree at St. Xaviers College and found that I had a ‘study mate’, an external student, doing a B.Ed(Hons) degree. She was 40. As a full time kindy teacher she was unable to attend lectures. I was given the job to ‘lecturer’ her in the evenings. We spent most evenings in the front verandah going through my copious hand written notes (oh, for a laptop!). Three years later we both graduated. That lady was Phyllis Pearson…my mum. Sent in by her daughter Jan Salmon.

My mum Daisy Margaret  Assey (nee Mason) was born in Madras/Chennai – India on the 18th of August 1921.  She was one of seven children and she was the only girl amongst 6 boys.  She was baptised at St. Matthias Church, Vepery, Madras.

After her schooling she joined the British Army where she did her Nurses Training which turned out to be one of her greatest joys and passion which she carried out diligently long after she left the profession.  It was in her blood.

Share and Care – Helping Anglo-Indians

I recently received an email from a friend back in India where he shared with me his vision for helping Anglo-Indians. Needless to say, PepperWater at it’s core is all about giving back to the Anglo-Indian community and helping Anglo-Indians. This story got my attention and PepperWater had to do an interview with Calvin Dee and Steve Periera – the two guys who refuse to call themselves “the founders” because the term has no heart. They are simply to guys who saw a need in the community and decided to do something about it.

If you feel like you’d like to be a part of what they are doing and contribute either with your time, your resources/services or monetarily please see the contact info below.
